Nearly 5,000 farmers from various towns and villages in Yidu gathered in Longtanhe village, Wangjiafan town to celebrate Yidu’s first Farmers' Harvest Festival on September 15. The sound of drums and music was in full swing.

The event

　　With the approval of the CPC Central Government and the State Council, the autumn equinox of the lunar calendar every year has been designated as the "Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival" since 2018, which is the first special festival for farmers at the national level.

　　Themed "Marching Forward Happily, Getting Rid of Poverty, and Celebrating Harvest Festival", Yidu’s first Farmers' Harvest Festival included the following activities: "celebrating harvest for poverty alleviation", "reaping harvest by labor competition", "showcasing harvest with prosperous industries", "tasting harvest with mountain delicacies", "enjoying harvest with city dwellers", etc. Farmers experienced and embraced the joy of harvest in multifarious competitions, such as the machinery tea leaves-picking contest,the tea garden fertilizer-carrying relay race, “the most beautiful goat" selection,the "mountain climbing with flag", “the best local delicacies” etc. The festival attracted many city dwellers to experience the achievements of the construction of beautiful villages.

Commending “the most beautiful people out of poverty”

　　On the spot, Yang Hua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and town mayor of Wangjiafan town, said in his speech that Wangjiafan town will make full use of the first Farmers' Harvest Festival to take the new development concept as the guide and follow the development strategy of "one park, two districts and three towns". By adhering to the development strategy of eco-friendly rise, the town will vigorously promote the development of agricultural industries with high quality and eco-friendlyagro-products, and accelerate high quality industrial development, rural revitalization, ecological construction, accurate poverty alleviation to achieve high quality life of the masses so as to compose a new chapter in rural revitalization.

　　At the scene of the event, the 20 people, who were selected from 4251 of 1671 households, were honored as "the most beautiful people out of poverty" and were awarded a prize of 1,000 yuan each. 6 pairs of expert tea leaves pickers were selected in the machinery tea leaves-picking contest. There were one first prize, two second prize and three third prizes in the tea garden fertilizer-carrying relay race. In the competition of local delicacies, five famous Yidu dishes and five local dishes were selected. Based on breed and gender, in the selection of "the most beautiful goat", one "most beautiful goat king", two "most beautiful goat queens", three "beautiful goats" and four "happy goats" were selected. In the 200-meter goat-carrying relay race, one first prize, two second prize and three third prizes were selected. In the mountain climbing contest, ten climbers won the prize.

　　The purpose of holding the Farmers' Harvest Festival was to showcase the earth-shaking changes in the rural areas, the achievements of farmers and the new results of poverty alleviation and rural rejuvenation in the 40 years since the reform and opening-up so as to make the whole society feel the joy of harvest and make people feel that agriculture was a promising industry, farming an attractive job and the countryside a beautiful place to live and work in peace and contentment. The festival also provided a good opportunity for many more people to "view the beautiful scenery and miss their hometown".
