On October 2, the reporter learned from the Municipal Atmosphere Office that good air quality rate in September was 100%, ranking ninth among all the cities in Hubei province and two places higher than last month.
Up to September 30, PM10 in the urban area was 74 micrograms/cubic meters, decreasing by 11.9% over the same period of last year; PM2.5 was 50 micrograms/cubic meters, decreasing by 5.7% over the same period of last year; the number of days of good and excellent air quality was 212, increasing by 7 days over the same period of last year and the proportion of days of good and excellent air quality was 78.5%, up 3.4% year-on-year. All three indices(total suspended particulate matter, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides) met the provincial requirements of target assessment ahead of time.
Next, the city will take more vigorous and stricter measures to combat air pollution in winter, vigorously upgrade special emission limits in key industries, punish disorderly and polluting enterprises, tackle volatile organic compounds in a comprehensive way and control cooking fume pollution, etc. The city will buildsmall-scale monitoring stations of environment and air quality in villages and towns, establish assessment mechanism, and bring in expert teams to list sources of air pollution and conduct tracking research on the sources and reasons so as to enhance scientific governance and accurate policy-making capabilities for the sustained improvement of the city's air quality.
