Yichang to Implement Citywide Ecological Restoration
2018-10-18 10:31:48

On October 10, the reporter learned that according to the Overall Plan of Citywide Ecological Restoration in Yichang (2018-2019) adopted by the special conference of the Yichang Municipal Committee of CPC and the municipal government, by the end of 2019, the city plans to invest 305 million yuan to carry out citywide ecological restoration with 3.369 million trees to be planted and 8,681 acres of land to be covered with vegetation.

The person in charge of the Yichang Forestry Inventory and Planning Institute introduced that Yichang's overall plan for ecological restoration covers the whole city. Ecological restoration will realize "localization, colorization, landscaping and benefit" in a coordinated way by adhering to the principles of being problem-oriented, greening all the areas that should be, combining reforestation and landscaping. Mountains, water, forests, fields, lakes and grasses will be governed together. Over the next two years, by focusing on the landscaping along the mainstream of Yangtze River and its main tributaries, Yichang will comprehensively reforest highways, target wasteland, green the closed and abandoned mines and green the land temporarily occupied by projects so as to create ecological recreational corridors along the Yangtze River and green highways. The land to be reforested in 2018 is 6,210 acres and that in 2019 is 2,471 acres.

The Plan includes six major projects, namely reforestation along the mainstream and tributaries of the Yangtze River, upgrading of the greenness of highways, targeted wasteland elimination, reforestation of closed and abandoned mines and reforestation of temporarily occupied land. Based on 20 current conditions, eight typical designs are recommended, ten reforestation modes are attached and over 30 types of configuration modes of different macrophanerophytes, shrubs and grasses are introduced to guide grassroots implementation.

The selection of species will adhere to the principles of localization, colorization, landscaping and benefit. 13 species of trees, such as koelrenteria, paniculata and poplar, nine species of shrubs, such as photinia frase and crape myrtle, six herbs, such as reed and festuca arundinacea and 4 kinds of vines, such as creepers, are all selected.

Up to now, the city has reforested 5,848 acres of land, among which 713 acres are along the mainstream of Yangtze River, 35,583 acres are along the tributaries, 256 acres are along highways, 1,267 are wasteland, 16 acres are closed and abandoned mines and 34 acres are temporarily occupied land.
