On October 11, Exhibition of Yichang’s Disabled Persons’ Works of Intangible Cultural Heritage started in the People’s Art Gallery. The exhibition is organized by the municipal Disabled Persons' Federation and will last until October 19.
More than a dozen pieces of art works exhibited were from 15 disabled people. The visitors were amazed by woodblocks like Rowing Dragon Boat, Craftsman, Twinkle with Pleasure, which are full aesthetic and life characteristics of Yiling. Yiling woodblocks take the multi color or black and white woodcut as the main form and the rich and varied customs of the Xiajiang area as the creative material. Together with carving, embroidery, paper-cutting and other techniques, the woodblocks are carved into "black peonies" under the skillful hands of the craftsmen and they are listed in the province’s protection list of the first batch of intangible cultural heritage. Yiling district was awarded "the Hometown of Chinese Folk Art (Woodblock)" by the Ministry of Culture in 1993.
The person in charge who works for the municipal Disabled Persons' Federation said that starting this year, the training for disabled people in intangible culture heritage projects will continued to help more disabled people regain confidence and participate in employment and entrepreneurship of intangible culture heritage projects .
