Guard against Infectious Diseases in Fickle Weather
2018-11-07 11:20:18

Autumns and winters are high seasons for infectious diseases. On October 25th, the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention gave the following health tip: residents should guard against such diseases as influenza, mumps, chickenpox, measles, Norovirus infection, hand, foot and mouth diseases in daily life.

Experts warn that it is high season for flu, and the public had better keep warm in cold weather, have a balanced diet and moderate exercise and avoid fatigue so as to maintain good physical function while remember to pay attention to personal hygiene, wash hands frequently, ventilate rooms regularly, and avoid staying in closed environments and going to public places. In infectious seasons, people can wear masks and if you have symptoms such as fever, cough or sore throat, go to the hospital promptly. They also suggest that high-risk groups such as children (especially infants aged 2 and younger), elderly people aged 60 and over, chronically ill patients, pregnant women, people with immune-prohibitive diseases or immune-compromised diseases can take flu vaccination from October to next March.

In addition, people should also be careful about Norovirus infection in autumn and winter with such main symptoms as abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea, and all people are generally susceptible. The public should pay attention to personal hygiene, and daycare centers and kindergartens should strengthen the health education of infectious diseases and strictly disinfect the school environment in accordance with relevant regulations. Those children or students found with relevant symptoms should be sent to the hospital promptly and treated at home, and their health status should be closely monitored.

Experts also remind that children under 5 should also guard against hand, foot and mouth diseases. Once having fever, rash and other symptoms, they must be sent to a regular medical institution for treatment, and avoid contact with other children and cannot return to school or kindergarten until one week after all symptoms have disappeared (at least 2 weeks from the date of onset). At the same time, the inoculation of EV71 vaccine can prevent children from such diseases caused by EV71 enterovirus infection. (Reporter: Liu Jingjing; Correspondent: Zhang Hao)
