Recently, the 6th Chinese People’s Livelihood Development Forum was held in the lecture hall of the People’s Daily. The forum released the 2018 Chinese People’s Livelihood Development Report and the 2018 China's Top 100 Prefecture-level Cities in People’s Livelihood Development, both written by a third-party research team including Beijing Normal University, and on the list, eight cities are from Hubei, including Yichang, which ranks the 31st nationwide with an index value of 0.3134, and the first in the province.

It’s learned that the list is the final result obtained through measuring the livelihood development of 36 provincial capitals, cities specifically designated in the state plan, and 260 prefecture-level cities according to both 25 secondary indicators and such five primary indicators as livelihood, income and consumption, living and travel and cultural education as well as safety and health.

In 2017, Yichang’s spending on people’s livelihood reached 39.23 billion yuan, accounting for 79.9 % of its general public budget. To be specific, under the policy of “opening up the transportation hub and dredging the microcirculation”, the city has completed 26 unblocked traffic projects, newly built 4100 parking spaces, and finished the transformation and upgrading of 128 old urban districts and the transformation of 44 urban farmers’ markets, in addition to its winning of recognition as a “National Civilized City” for a consecutive third time.
