The "liquid hydrogen storage" material project, Yidu Hydrogen New Materials Co., Ltd.,is the first one in the world, of which the first phase(mid-term test), on December 29, 2018, was completed after one year’s construction. The project overcomes the world problem of hydrogen storage and transportation under normal temperature and pressure. The first phase will realize an annual output of 1000 tons of oil storage, laying a foundation for the large-scale promotion of hydrogen storage materials project.

　　Hydrogen is known as the “ultimate energy source” and the internationally recognized clean energy source. However, it has not yet been put into use on a large scale. The bottleneck lies in the traditional storage and transportation under high pressure, which is flammable and explosive and inconvenient to use. Cheng Hansong, Distinguished Professor of China University of Geo sciences and Chairman of Hubei Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd. led a team to develop a liquid organic hydrogen storage technology at normal temperature and pressure, which has found a solution to the world problem of hydrogen storage and transportation.

　　The technology is a chemical reaction that incorporates hydrogen into a compound storage to form hydrogen oil for storage and transportation. Hydrogen oil can be stored in the open air without volatilization and does not burn in the fire. Hydrogen can be released from the hydrogen oil when needed and the oil after dehydrogenation can be reused.

　　In November,2017, the world's first “liquid hydrogen storage” material project based on this technology officially settled in Yidu City with a total investment of 3 billion yuan. The project will be constructed in three phases. After completion, it can be expected to produce 1 million tons of liquid organic hydrogen storage material oil. The construction of the project will promote the popularization of hydrogen energy, bring subversive changes to the development and utilization of hydrogen energy and the transformation of new energy vehicles, and effectively solve the problems of energy shortage and pollution emissions faced by human society.

　　“After the completion and commissioning of the first phase, the company gradually completed the mid-term test accumulation.”,Cheng Hansong said.In 2019, it plans to enter the commercialization stage of the product and promote the application of organic liquid hydrogen storage technology in the fields of automobile, ship, rail transportation and off-grid energy storage. The project is expected to become a carrier of tens of billions of new energy and new materials in the future.

　　It is learned that in addition to hydrogen storage materials, Hubei Hydrogen New Energy Co., Ltd. will also set up production bases for hydrogenation, dehydrogenation and electro catalysts in Yidu, and form a complete industrial chain of hydrogen energy development and utilization in Yidu.
