Most schools and kindergartens in Yichang City opened on February 20th. At 9:30 a.m. the students and the teachers together watched the program of “New Year’s First Lesson” jointly prepared by the municipal departments of education and spiritual civilization management as well as the broadcast and television station.

　　The “first lesson” of 2019 with the theme of “Alleviating Poverty through Education and Growing up Together Hand in Hand” has presented the achievements of targeted poverty alleviation in the view of the students. The 45-minute TV program showed the gain and happiness of the students brought about by the measures of targeted poverty alleviation with four stories, including inheritance of traditional and local culture in Dayandi Primary School (Yidu City), implementation of exchange students system among certain high schools, psychological care project named “guarding angels” practiced in Donghu High School (Yiling District) and three-year promotion plan carried out in Fujiayan schools (Wufeng County).

　　Since 2013, the “New Year’s First Lesson” has been launched for 7 times, respectively themed by “Gratitude and Inspiration”, “Love and Dream”, “Inheritance of Good Family Traditions”, “Love for Left-behind Children”, “Participation in Ecological Conservation” and “Participation in Targeted Poverty Alleviation”. The stories about the native celebrities and the characteristic cultures of Yichang have been successively introduced on the screen.
