On April 5, it’s learned from the Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs that Yichang city has been vigorously carrying out the construction of standard tea gardens, through improving the production conditions of tea gardens, and energetically promoting the mechanization of all tea production processes, the application of organic fertilizers and the green prevention and control techniques in production in recent years. So far, 450,000 mu of standard tea gardens has been accumulatively built in the city.
Since last year, the Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has been accelerating the pace of breeding and promotion of improved tea varieties, energetically developing improved clonal tea varieties, and popularizing improved clonal tea varieties which are adaptive to the local climate, such as Yichang Big Leaf, Echa 7 and Fudingdabai. Two local tea companies, Xiao and Huayi are supported to carry out fine variety breeding, and their annual tea seedlings output reach 30 million and 20 million respectively. The city strongly advocates the concepts that “one town, one product” and “one village, one product”, and advances the centralized and integrated standardization of tea gardens, and has successively set up Wufeng Tea National Standardized Demonstration Zone, Yidu Green Tea National Standardized Demonstration Zone for Production, and National Standardized Demonstration Zone for Mechanized Tea Garden Production. Last year, the city's clonal improved tea variety rate exceeded 50%.
The city has greatly improved the tea quality safety through the construction of a number of organic tea gardens, green tea gardens and pollution-free tea gardens. In several sampling tests by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas, the qualification rate of Yichang tea quality safety has surpassed 99.7%, which reaches the standard for export to the European Union.
