The reporter learnt on May 21st that the “2019 Dragon-boat Festival in Qu Yuan’s Hometown” will be held in Zigui County in June, and its opening ceremony will be held in the Cultural Tourist Area of Quyuan’s Hometown on June 6th. The festival includes 14 activities of 4 categories, including opening ceremony, intangible cultural heritage and inheritance,food culture and exchanges of culture,tourism,economyand trade.
There is a folk custom that the Dragon Boat Festival in Zigui is celebrated for three times a year and much more ceremoniously than the last day of a lunar year. For several thousand years, people in Qu Yuan's hometown have taken the festival as an integration of Qu Yuan, the great patriotic poet’s spirit and custom, with its rich cultural significance.
“One of the most important purposes of this ceremony is to carry forward the culture of Dragon Boat Festival and pass on the affective feelings towards this piece of land”, said Wan Dan, a Deputy County Magistrate of Zigui County, according to whom, the opening ceremony will fully display the unique charm of the Dragon Boat Festival custom and profound cultural deposits of poetry via the poetry and dancing performances, sticking closely to the elements of Qu Yuan, Dragon Boat Festival and Yangtze river,.” In addition to the regular activities, such as the Qu Yuan worshipping ceremony, the dragon-boat race and the activities of Sao-style poetry club,some other events will be arranged during the festival,including the parties of food tasting and literature and arts, firework show, Zongzi (rice dumplings) making match for Guinness World Record challenge as well as many tourism programs. Also, the Dragon-boat Custom Inheritance Hall and the Dragon-boat Culture Park will be open to the public then.
Meanwhile, the merchants and investment attracting fairs and investment promoting activities will be integrated with the Dragon Boat Festival culture, Qu Yuan culture, navel orange culture and tourism development, presenting to the visitors and the guests a feast of native custom, scenic attractions, local cuisines and original celebration of the festival.
