On June 16, the final of the 2019 China Yichang Natural Waters International Extreme Drifting F1 Grand Prix was held in Chaotianhou Drifting Scenic Area, Xingshan county.
The event, sponsored by China Extreme Sports Association, Hubei Administration of Sport and Yichang government, is the world's top event of extreme drifting. The four drifting scenic areas in Yichang are divided into three sub-competition sites—Jiuwanxi in Zigui, Qinglongxia in Dianjun district, Hengding in Yuanan—and the site for the final Chaotianhou. The competition is a two-person boat drifting race, which consists of three groups: men's group, women's group and amateur group.
At 10 a.m., with one starting gun shot, the competition officially began. More than 2,000 athletes followed the 6.5 km drifting river in Chaotianhou and had a fierce competition. The competitors enjoyed the speed and passion while experiencing the rushing water and waves. With the results of intense competitions of the four stations, Brazil won the men's championship with a total time of 1 hour, 51 minutes and 41 seconds. The United States and Britain won the men's second prize and the third prize respectively. The Hubei women's team won the women's championship with a total time of 2 hours, 02 minutes and 46 seconds. Bulgaria and Guangdong women's team won the women's second prize and the third prize respectively.
Chaotianhou Drifting Scenic Area has successfully held seven international natural waters drifting competitions since 2012. This competition attracted a record high of professional teams from 13 countries, including Bulgaria, Brazil, the United States, Britain, Australia and Hungar and 30 professional teams from Beijing, Fujian, Jiangsu, etc. In order to promote drifting, more than 2,000 people including international friends from over 30 countries in Hubei’s Universities , citizens and drifting enthusiasts participated in the competition of the amateur group.
