Waste in Shanghai is divided into dry and wet types, yet it is not the case in Yichang. On the morning of August 14, it was announced at a press conference on promoting the classification of urban and rural wastes in Hubei Province that a quarter division will be fully implemented for waste classification. Accordingly, urban household waste is divided into harmful waste, recyclable materials, kitchen waste and other waste, while rural household waste is divided into harmful waste, recyclable materials, perishable waste and other waste.
It’s reported that according to the plan of the general office of the State Council and the notice of the nine ministries and commissions, the implementation plan of Hubei Province, will determine the work objectives of different cities by drawing on the experiences of Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and other provinces and cities, and emphasize the integrated classification of waste for both urban and rural areas, while paying attention to the difference between key cities, city districts, counties and cities, and that between cities and villages.
It’s learned from the Municipal Urban Management Committee that Yichang will fully implement waste division according to the same requirements of the province. According to the production and disposal characteristics of urban and rural domestic waste, the division will be conducted on the principle of simple and easy operation and public acceptability, as it is determined by Hubei Province that different from the practice of Shanghai, Yichang will not divide household waste into wet and dry types.
Yichang will complete the creation of 100 demonstration communities, 747 subdistricts and 10 demonstration subdistricts, and a list of 100 communities for compulsory waste division by 2019. By 2020, the division coverage rate in Yichang urban area will reach 80%, and a large demonstration area for waste classification will be initially built to realize the full standards of harmless treatment of domestic waste.
