Yunchi Port Opens First Container Freighter to Chongqing

  On November 4, the opening ceremony of the "Yichang-Chongqing" container freighter was held at Yunchi Port, Yichang. The "Gangsheng 1606" ship loaded with 180 standard containers of pyrophyllite and building materials departed here and sailed to Chongqing."

  “This shipment was shipped in bulk from Xiamen, and after the completion of "loading the original bulk of goods into the container" (hereinafter referred to as container reloading business)in Yichang, it was delivered to Chongqing by water,” said Wuchao, deputy general manager of Yunchi Port and witness to the container reloading business.

  At present, Yunchi Port boasts 420 meters of operation trestle shoreline, four 5,000-ton berths, an operating area of 583 acres and a container yard area of 170,000 square meters, which can meet the port service function of 500,000 TEUs annually.

  To optimize and strengthen the container reloading business., Yunchi Port has invested 1.7 million yuan in adding boxing and unboxing belt conveyors and loader equipment. It has opened the Yichang—Shanghai, Yichang—Wuhan—Shanghai, Yichang—Yueyang—Shanghai lines and have reached long-term cooperation with Hubei Yihua, Hubei Xingfa Chemicals Group Co. Ltd., Angel Yeast, Zhijiang Allmed Medical Products Co. Ltd. and other well-known enterprises. In 2018, Yunchi Port completed a container throughput of 150,000 TEUs, ranking second in provincial ports.

  The containerfreighter lines of Yunchi Port have been mainly designed and developed for Shanghai. The "Yichang-Chongqing" line is the first fixed line to the west.

  “Six round trip departures between Yichang and Chongqing are expected to be completed in 2019, increasing the container throughput by about 2,400 TEUs." Wu Chao said that from January to October, Yunchi Port's cargo throughput was 4.8831 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 60.11%.
