On November 7, the press conference for the 2019 Generic Medicine Development Forum (Yichang, Hubei) was held in Yichang, unveiling a three-day forum. Chen Huixia, member of the standing committee of the municipal party committee and executive vice mayor, attended the meeting and made relevant recommendations.

　　At the meeting, the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Municipal Economic and Information Bureau, the Municipal Market Supervision Bureau, and the relevant persons in charge of Yichang Renfu Pharmacy Co., Ltd. and Dongyangguang Pharmacy Co., Ltd. respectively answered reporters’ questions on Yichang’s generic medicine industry development plan, the background of relevant policies, and the future development of the enterprise.

　　According to the introduction, the holding of the forum is an important measure for the city to seize the opportunity of industrial transformation, to connect with the strategic deployment of the provincial party committee and government and to promote the high-quality development of bio-pharmaceutical industry. The purpose of the forum is to invite the elite of the bio-pharmaceutical industry to discuss the latest trends and development paths of generic medicine at home and abroad, and at the same time to “evaluate and give advice” on the development of the generic industry of the city.

　　The city is an important biomedical production base nationwide. In 2018, the output value of four major emerging industries in the city, namely bio-pharmacy, electronic information, new materials and equipment manufacturing, accounted for nearly 40% of the total industrial output value. Among them, the bio-pharmaceutical industry, represented by generic medicine, has a strong momentum of development. There are several backbone leading pharmaceutical enterprises with national influence, such as Yichang Renfu Pharmacy Co., Ltd and Yichang Dongyangguang Pharmacy Co., Ltd., with a number of advantageous brands, like Kewei and Fentanyl series. The industry also boasts of national innovation platforms including the State-local Joint Narcotic Drug Innovation and Development Engineering Laboratory, and public service platforms such as generic medicine technology innovation and pharmaceutical product production.

　　According to the Yichang Generic Medicine Development Planand the Implementation Plan for the Construction of a National Generic Medicine Production Base, Yichang will build distinctive industrial clusters to realize all-round and differentiated development of its bio-pharmaceutical industry under a “2+4” industrial layout mode, with the High-tech Zone Bio-industrial Park and Yidu Bio-pharmaceutical Industrial Park as the main force, and the High-tech Zone Baiyang Industrial Park, Yiling Bio-pharmaceutical Industrial Park, Zhijiang Medical Textile Industrial Park and Yuan’an National Essential Drug Industrial Park as the auxiliary ones, so that by 2025, the total output value of the city’s bio-pharmaceutical industry can reach 100 billion yuan, with a concentration rate of bio-pharmaceutical enterprises exceeding 80% and a generic medicine industry cluster can come into shape covering all aspects of drug research and development, production, circulation and use, becoming the first-class generic medicine production base in China.
