Yichang Accelerates Construction of Port-type National Logistics Hub

  "Yichang, with the special position in the Yangtze River transportation was selected as the first batch port-type national logistics hub this year by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Communications."   This golden logistics cross network includes four directions. To the west, it relies on Minsheng Shipping Co., Ltd. to connect the southwest region, and reach Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Chongqing and other regions. To the south, through the river-ocean transportation, the grain trade will be extended to Guangdong and Guangxi areas, and it will be connected to Southeast Asia. To the north, it cooperates with Dalian Port, Yingkou Port, and Jinzhou Port to use the eastern route network to connect the Northeast region; it connects Alataw Pass and Khorgos International Railway Hub, opens the Yichang-Xi'an-Xinjiang logistics corridor, and extends to Russia and Central Asia areas.

  How can Yichang be further promoted as a port-type national logistics hub, relying on the cross-dam transportation and these logistics channels already in operation?

  "Last week, Yichang CPC committee and government delegation went to Chongqing to learn its successful experiences: the local people based on the orchard port, have opened the new land and sea channel, the Yangtze River Golden Channel, the 'Chongqing-Russia' international railway train, and the China-Europe international combined railways, which leads to various international destinations, from four directions. It has indeed inspired us." Deng Jun said that Yichang and Chongqing are both inland port-type national logistics hubs, and they have can deepen the cooperation. Actually, both parties have had the will and foundation.

  According to the proposal, based on Baiyang Port, Maoping Port and Jiaoliu Railway, which already has stations built in Yichang, a large channel connecting North and South, Yichang will be integrated into the construction of a new land and sea channel from Orchard Port to Singapore built by Chongqing. In response, Yichang Urban Construction Investment Holdings Group is gradually improving its facilities. It plans to start the construction of the Maoping-Baiyang Port Railway this December and strive to complete it within two years to achieve the connection between the two major ports and Jiao-liu Railway, so as to better joint Chongqing Orchard Port.

  "While learning from others, we will strive to build a double hub of Baiyang Park, below the dam and Zigui Park, above the dam, relying on the existent national multimodal transport demonstration project of Three Gorges Hub Baiyang Port and Maoping Port. We will construct a better national logistics hub for the country. " Yin Jun, general manager of Yichang Urban Construction Investment Holdings Group, introduced that they will work hard to improve the organization of the two-way logistics service above the dam and below the dam. It will replace the traditional organization mode by using water and land transportation between the two ports, "mainline plus mainline" and "mainline plus branches" in the area. The logistics organization mode of “land-over-dam”logistics will transform the demand for “crossing dams”into the locally rooted“origin to end”demand .

  The implementation of these measures will help Yichang, a national logistics hub, better connect with other logistics hubs, form trunk transportation networks such as liners and trains, and effectively promote the efficient transportation of cargoes in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. It is estimated that by 2025, the Yichang hub is expected to undertake about 30% of urban freight volume and over 70% of cross-border transportation.
