Five villages in Yichang listed as “Provincial Hometown of Folk Culture Art”

  On December 12, the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism announced the list of “Provincial Hometown of Folk Culture Art” in 2018-2020. Five counties, cities and districts of Yichang are on the list, including Leizu town (custom), Maoping town, Zigui county (Jiandong drum dance), Zhijiang City (folk wind and percussion instrument), Wuduhe town, Yiling District (folk song) and Ziqiu town, Changyang Tujia Autonomous County (Sayer'erhu, a traditional funeral dance).

  In recent years, Yichang has exerted its efforts, through legislation and policy, to achieve effective protection, continuous inheritance and scientific utilization of excellent traditional culture and to speed up the integration of culture and tourism and the revitalization of rural areas, providing a suitable environment for the growth of traditional culture. There are now 4 provincial cultural and ecological protection pilot areas, among which, Changyang and Wufeng are listed as national ecological protection pilot zone while in Wuling mountainous area (Southwest Hubei), the Tujia and Miao Cultural and Ecological Protection Pilot Area is under special protection. There are 2 provincial intangible cultural heritage inheritance pilot bases, 17 at municipal level and 84 bases(or institutions) at county level. Besides, there are 5 national advanced cultural counties like Changyang, 9 national hometowns of folk cultural and art like Zigui, and 15 provincial hometowns of folk cultural and art like Xingshan.
