The Yuan’anJuhe River Wetlandislisted in the 2020 National Important Wetland Listissued by the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, and 29 wetlands are listed in the National Important Wetland List this time, including 8 wetlands in Hubei Province, based on sourcesfrom the Municipal Forestry and Garden Bureau on June11.
The national important wetland,whichnot only needs to accord withthe index of national important wetland but also possess national ecological functions and benefits, is the specific area for protective management in accordance with relative regulations. The identification and announcementof national important wetlands are critical measures to carry out wetland list management and strengthen wetland conservation and restoration.
The mixed ecosystem of river and wetland with JuheRiver features and biological diversity need priority protection in the National Important Wetland of Yuan’anJuhe River, and this place also is a habitat for migrant birds and some rare or endangered species, such as Chinese mergansersand black storks.
The protection and restoration of Yichang wetlands is constantly improved in recent years. As of 2019, the total wetland area has reached 82,300 hectares in Yinchang. Yichang has successively declaredto build 8 national wetland parks—Yidu Tianlong Bay, Yuanan Ju River, Dangyang Qinglong Lake, Zhijiang Golden Lake, Changyang Qingjiang River, Wufeng Baixi River, Yiling Quanyitang and Zigui Jiuwanxi and 1 provincial wetland park—Zhijiang Agate River.
