Citizens like to go to the Yangtze River to quell the summer heat and relax as the temperature is constantly rising. In order to prevent drowning accidents, the police of the Gezhouba Shiplock Police Stationof Yichang Branch of the Changhang Public Security Bureau brought life-saving equipments to the community of the Three Gorges Bureau of Xiba Street in Xiling District on June 24 to informresidents ofrecent drowning accidents of children in various regions, calling on the public to raise the awareness of safety and have a safe and happy summer.

　　Walking along theYangtze Riverto enjoy coolness becomes the first choice for many citizens in hot days owing tothe long river bank and the beautiful scenery on both sides of the river in Yichang urban areas. In particular, a riverside beach near the Victoria Harbour of the Dianjun District attracts many people.

　　However, with the arrival of flooding season,heavy rainfall and many flood peaks along the Yangtze River, the current of the river in Yichang area is fast flowing and treacherous. People are extremely prone to slip downor be tripped by hidden underwater ship cables at riverside due to slippery slope, variable water level in one day and slope protection covered by mosses.

　　“There have been 45 incidents of drowning just in the river section of Yichang urban areas since 2019. Last summer, a child who was playing at the slope protection accidently fell into the water near the Zhenjiang Pavilion. Fortunately, a swimming-lover saved the child in time, avoiding terrible consequences.” The police of the Yichang Police Station of Yichang Branch of the Changhang Public Security Bureau said.

　　It is said that the Yichang Branch of the Changhang Public Security Bureau has organized a publicity group since 2018 to enter communities, enterprises and schools along the river every summer to popularizeknowledge of water safety. Besides, they also mobilize police forces to strengthen patrols along the river and key waterareas in case of dangerous behaviors.

　　Except the Yangtze River, some ordinaryrivers, ponds, reservoirs and other strange waters also hide dangers. Thus drowning tragedies frequently happen in these places due to incaution. Special attention should be paid to teenagers who lack of safety consciousness, according to instructions from the police.

　　In the Sanjiang waterarea, the slope covered by mosses makes itis easy to directly slide into the river.

　　In the Zhenjiang Pavilion waterarea, it is very dangerous to swim in the channel where many ships pass by.

　　In the Binjiang Park waterarea,itis difficult to rescue once people are in distress in the place berthing many boats used as landing stages.

　　On the river side of the Dagong Bridge,many people play in water, thus thereis a big potentialrisk.

　　On the river side of the Yichang Wanda Plaza, there are many boats used as landing stages and moored ships.

　　In the Wanshouqiao Canal estuary section, the estuary where the canal flows to the Yangtze River is complex.

　　Along the Old Steam Ferry water area near the Yangcha Road, many people play in water to enjoy coolness, thus thereisa big potential risk.

　　In the Baota River section, there is a steep gap of 5m between the section and the riverbank so that itisextremely dangerous to walk down the bank.

　　Along the BaishaRoad Ferry Pier water area,many people play in water, thus thereis a big potentialsafety hazard.
