The2020(Ninth)ChinaInternational Ecological CompetitivenessSummit (CIECS) opened on September 20,jointly sponsored by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, China Chamber of International Commerce,the Population,Resources and EnvironmentCommittee ofCPPCC,National Forestry and Grassland Administrationand People’s Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Thesummit released a list of“themost eco-competitive citiesin2020”, Yichang, Ordos, Tai’an, GanzhouandZhangjiajie were on the list.

　　CIECSis one of the national conferences in the ecological fieldofChina.Eightsummitshavebeen successfully held since 2008andnow ithas become an important platform for high-level dialogue and cooperation in the field of international ecology.

　　The representatives of United Nations Development ProgrammeinChinaand the ASEAN-CHINACenter, the Ambassador of Iceland to China,the Minister of the Indonesian Embassy in China, the Commercial Counselor of Turkish Embassy in China, and other officials of more than 30 embassies in China, as well as experts from theworld’s top 500 enterprises,Commerce andAssociations attendedthe summit to explore the new path of ecological civilization construction and green development with the theme of “Creatinggreen development,obtaining a bright future”.

　　Yichang made thecity promotion and delivereda keynote speech at the summit. In recent years, thecity has kept steppingup conservation of the Yangtze River and stoppingits overdevelopment, putting restoring the ecological environment of the Yangtze River at a dominant position.The city is exploringa new path of high-quality development that prioritizes ecology and highlights green development,realizing amagnificent turn fromafragile ecological area to acompetitive ecological city. On April 24,2018, PresidentXi came to Yichang atthe first stopduring his inspection ofHubeiProvince,expressing afull acknowledgment of the protection and restoration of the ecological environment of the Yangtze River in Yichang.

　　In order to protect the ecological barrier of the Yangtze River, Yichanghaslisted the restoration of the ecological environment in the Yichang section of the Yangtze River as the No.1 reform project and made every effort to winthe ten iconicfights for the protection of the Yangtze River.The experience of cracking theproblem of “chemicalindustryencirclingthe Yangtzeriver” was commended by the State Council and popularized in 11 provincesalong the Yangtze River;By developing the ecological construction of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes and grasses with systematic thinkingand adhering to the principle of “cultivating ecology externally and cultivating humanity internally”, Jinhuin Zhijiang City has beenawardedthe“beautiful lake of Yangtze River Economic Belt”, and the quality of the national surface water of the main stream of the Yangtze River has reached class II. By creating “Yichang sample” of ecological governance with reformationalmeasures, focusingon regional ecological problemsand exploringa new path of “co-negotiation, co-management, co-governance, co-construction, sharing,win-win”, thecomprehensive management systemof Huangbai River Basinwas awarded“the top ten experienceofbasalwater control”, winningthe Hubei Reform Award. Highlightingthe “ecological value”oflucidwater and lush mountains, adheringto theintegration of production,life, ecological, realizing the transformationoflucid water and lush mountains toinvaluable assets, with itstourismreaching22%inGDP,Yichang haswonthe title ofthe National Civilized CityandNational Forest City and has become the city of happinessthroughoutthe countryand ranked No. 1 in cities of happiness of Hubei Province.
