Recently, the fourth batch of national first, second and thirdlevel museums was announced, approving 74 museums as national-level museums, 221 museums as national secondlevel museums and 225 museums as national thirdlevel museums. Yichang Museum was approved as a national-level museum.
The Yichang Museum wascompleted and opened in 1993, and the new museum construction project was formally established in 2013 with a total investment of 727 millionyuan, which was officially opened to the public on 6 September 2019, making it the most invested, largest and most modern museum in the province at the municipal and state level.
The Yichang Museum currently has 9 basic displays: "Remote Ancient Xiling-Historical and Cultural Exhibition""Bachu Yiling-Historical and Cultural Exhibition""Thousands of Xiazhou-Historical and Cultural Exhibition""Modern Yichang-Historical and Cultural Exhibition""Customs of the Three Gorges-Folk Cultural Relics Exhibition""Ancient City Memory-Yichang Ancient City Scenery Exhibition""Opening Primordial Chaos-Exhibition of Animals, Plants, Fossils and Rock Mineral Specimens""Natural Selection-Exhibition of Animal Specimen Donated by Mr. Behring""Digital Exhibition Hall"A total of 4,064 exhibits (including folklore, fossils and animal specimens) of various kinds were on display.
The museum has 58,711 pieces/sets of various collections, including 35,494 pieces/sets of cultural relics. The existing first-class cultural relics 84 pieces/sets, secondary cultural relics 112 pieces/sets, tertiary cultural relics 1427 pieces/sets. The scale and quality of the collection ranks among the top municipal and state-level museums in Hubei Province.
The evaluation and grading of museums is carried out every three years, which has an important and far-reaching significance in improving the management level, service quality and social contribution of museums, and enablingthe people to enjoy the fruits of cultural heritage protection more and better.
