The Department of Ecology and Environment of Hubei Province has accessed the people’s governmentsfrom such aspects as the completion of carbon emission intensity targets, energy conservation and structural optimization, and the developmentof low-carbon industrial systems.

　　In recent years, positive results have been achieved in controlling greenhouse gas emissions in Yichangbyestablishing a sound carbon emission assessment system, promoting industrial restructuring, and developing clean energy and green power. Especially in 2019, carbon dioxide emissions per unit of gross regional product dropped by 4.4% compared with the previous year; the annual target of a 2.1% decline was over-fulfilled, and the “13th Five-Year Plan”issued by Hubei Province was completed ahead of schedule.

　　Going forward, Yichang will continue to deal with climate change. The city will focus on reducing pollution and carbon for effectively boosting structural transformation and upgrading and green low-carbon development, formulating action plans for peaking carbon emissions, establishing net-zero carbon emission demonstration zones, launching a sound carbon emissions trading market. And the city will promote synergy in dealing with climate change and ecological environmental protection tostrive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.(Reporter YangJing, correspondentTang Rong)
