On July 7, 2022, the Water Diversion from the Yangtze River to the Hanjing River Project under the Middle Route program of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project went into operation in Danjiangkou of Shiyan City, with a static total investment of 58.235 billion yuan and a construction duration of 108 months. The middle route water diversion project, when completed, is expected to carry 3.9 billion cubic meters of water from the Three Gorges Dam Reservoir to the Hanjiang River downstream the Danjiangkou Dam every year, while increasing the water transfer column of the first phase of the Middle Route project. The Water Diversion Work starts from Yichang City, passes through its Yiling District and Yuan’an County,and then goes northward.
