A group of journalists from both sides of the Taiwan Straits arrived at the Three Gorges Dam in Yichang on September 3, marking the official launch of the seven-day 16thHubei Tour of Cross-Straits Media.
Ren Yifang, Beijing-stationed special correspondent from Eastern Multimedia, said in excitement, "I was so thrilled when I saw the Three Gorges Dam."She was astounded to see the ship pass through the five-tier ship locks and the row of spill holes, and had been touched by the great effort of dam constructors.
Chen Zhenglu,journalist from United Daily News, said, “Although I heard of the Dam when I was young, I didn’t have a round understanding about it. Now the dam looks more magnificent than I expected after seeing it in person.” He hoped to get know the dam better and and the city’s importance to the development of industrial chains in the mainland of China during the following days.
The journalists also went to the Qu Yuan Temple in Zigui county to honor the great patriotic poet.Chen Xiangru, reporter from TVBS, said that when she was a child, she read poems written by Qu Yuan. During the Dragon Boat Festival, people would hold many commemorating activities,including dragon boat races, zongzi-eating,warmwood-hanging on the door, etc.
Nearly 20 journalists from both sides of the Taiwan Straits will visit many places in Yichang,such as Zigui county, Xingshan county, Changyang Tujia autonomous county and Yiling district. They will also visit Wangusi Village(village of Qu Yuan’s offsprings) and scenic spots like the Three Gorges Tribe Scenic Spotand the Zhaojun's Hometown Scenic Spot. The tour will help them know better about ecological protection in the Yangtze River basin and experience Ba Chu culture.
