Unpaid Blood Donors Get Deduction for Blood Fees
2023-04-14 08:53:29

Recently, according to the Yichang Central Blood Station, since the launch of the “Blood Service Information System of Blood Donors in Hubei” in July last year, as of April 3, 40 medical blood institutions in Yichang have achieved data matching with the provincial platform, and 370 people have benefited from “direct exemption of blood fees” policy, with a cumulative direct exemption amount of 288,900 yuan in total.

According to the Blood Donation Law, unpaid blood donors and their immediate family members (including parents, spouses and children of blood donors) can benefit from the preferential policies for blood fees reduction. However, in the past, patients needed to pay fees in advance after using blood, and then take the relevant documents to the blood station for reimbursement or go to the hospital's blood transfusion department to register for reimbursement after discharge.

After the implementation of the policy of “direct exemption of blood fees”, when patients go through the discharge settlement procedures, they can directly get the reduction at the cashier with relevant documents and certificates as well as blood donation vouchers, which not only saves the time for the reimbursement, but also relieves the financial pressure of advance blood expenses, thus breaking the stereotype of “easy blood donation, difficult reimbursement”. According to the relevant regulations on blood expense reimbursement, if the cumulative amount of blood donated by the donor himself reaches 1000 ml (including 1000 ml), the donor will get unlimited amount of free blood for life; If the cumulative blood donation volume is 600 ml (including 600 ml) to 1000 ml, the reimbursement is three times that of the donated blood volume; if the cumulative amount of blood donated is below 600 ml, the same amount of blood expenses will be reimbursed; Parents, children and spouses of blood donors can reimburse the same amount of blood as the donor's cumulative amount of blood for free.

The relevant person in charge of the central blood station said that blood donors in Hubei Province and their immediate family members (including parents, children and spouses) who currently use blood in 40 medical institutions in Yichang can enjoy the privilege through the hospital cashier in accordance with relevant regulations when they are discharged.
