2023-08-03 08:39:41

On July 28th, two free cooling centers were officially opened to the public in Yichang, including the Citizens’ Service Center at the Dongmenkou civil air defense work and the Landscape Cave in the Baimashan Air-Raid Shelter, where people may go for the air-conditioned comfort in summer. The launch ceremonies of two cooling centers were held in the morning.

The Citizens’ Service Center in the Dongmenkou civil air defense work is located at the intersection of 1st Xiling Road and East Huancheng Road, covering an area of more than 840 square meters.

Upon entering the cooling center, visitors are greeted with a holographic projection corridor composed of 10 laser projectors, showcasing dynamic images of Yichang’s national defense, civil air defense, urban publicity, etc.

It was noticed that in addition to providing tables and chairs, the cooling center is equipped with drinking water dispensers, various heatstroke prevention and cooling items and medicines, vending machines, and shared umbrellas. There are also reading corners where visitors can borrow books.

The Landscape Cave in the Baimashan air-raid shelter is located at Shanshui Huating Residential Complex, No. 435, Dongshan Avenue, Wujiagang District. It is one of the earliest civil defense projects in the city, built by the staff in the then Resin Factory in the 1970s with a total area of 1,048 square meters.

The cooling center is divided into different functional areas, such as fitness area, screening room, reading room, chess and card room, and youth center. Moreover, it is equipped with facilities such as television, tables and chairs, water dispensers, emergency medical kits, fitness equipment, and newspaper racks. The shelter also offers free services such as hot water and WIFI.

“Today I see many veteran workers with their family here. It is a good memory for us.” Tan Guofu, a local resident, is a retired worker of the then Resin Factory, who led the construction of the then air-raid shelter, “We only built a rough one, while now it’s upgraded.” During the transformation, Tan, in his 70s, often dropped by and offered some suggestions.
