October 6, the last day of the holiday, witnessed a peak of returning railway trips. 65,486 trips were made from the Yichangdong Railway Station, increasing by 5.8% and 178.4%, respectively, compared with the same periods in 2009 and 2022.
The passenger trips were mainly long-distance trips with the destinations being Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Chongqing. Tickets for short-distance destinations like Hankou, Jingzhou, Qianjiang were hard to obtain. Facing the peak of returning passengers, Yichangdong Railway Station timely adjusted the train operation plan and implemented the “one day, one diagram” scheme based on the needs of the passengers to increase trains to hot destinations and better match passenger flow. On that day, Yichangdong Railway Station ran 256 trains. The capacity of 135 trains to Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Chongqing was doubled by connecting a same train to the running train. 22 additional red-eye trains, departing between the midnight and 6:00 a.m. on Oct. 7, in the direction of Hankou, Enshi and Lichuan were added to meet the needs of passengers travelling at different time periods.
According to the Yichang Maritime Safety Administration, during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, Yichang’s waterway traffic reached 195,000, up 61%. Among them, the passenger volume on passenger ships and cruise ships, mainly for short distance trips and entertainment in the port, amounted to 92,000, an increase of 254%.
To strengthen the supervision of waterway traffic, Yichang Maritime Safety Administration carried out security checks before ships started running. Law enforcement personnel were stationed at important terminals, and some even stayed on key ships when it was necessary. During the holiday, the administration sent out about 365 law enforcement officials on 164 checks, ensuring the safety of 304 key vessels with 402,000 tonnes of key goods.
