Recently, the Ministry of Transport together with the National Development and Reform Commission issued a notice to name 19 projects as “National Multimodal Transport Demonstration Projects”, such as the Demonstration Project of Integrated Application of Container Multimodal Transport Information of China-Europe Railway Express, and the Demonstration Project of “Large-scale Diversification by Rail and Small-scale Transit by Road” of Water-Rail Public Multimodal Transport of the Yangtze Three Gorges Project is listed among the projects, which was initiated and operated by Yichang Transportation Investment Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Yichang Urban Development Investment Group Co., Ltd, and China Railway Wuhan Bureau Group Co., Ltd.,.
In 2018, the Water-Rail Transit Multimodal Transport Demonstration Project of the Yangtze Three Gorges Hub in the mode of “large-scale diversification and small-scale transit” was initiated in Yichang, and this project was included in the list of the third batch of national multimodal transport demonstration projects recently. Since its implementation, Yichang Transportation Investment Co., Ltd, as the initiator has successfully started the demonstration lines of “Transportation of North Grain to the South and West”, “Grain and Fertilizer Exchange”, and “Over-dam Carrier Transportation of Commodity Vehicles”, saving more than 10 hours in transportation and 15% of the comprehensive logistics cost. More than 3 days can be saved through the effective shifts between large carriers and small ships and the over-dam lighterage of commodity vehicles between large carriers and container ships while waiting for throughput through the ship lock of the Dam. The pioneering mode of “Vehicle-Ship Transit” enables direct loading of containers from vehicles to ships also requires less transfer links than the traditional mode of rail-water transportation, which effectively solves many problems of station-to-port land transportation, and greatly improves the efficiency of cargo transportation.
