Recently, it was learned from the Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau that the municipal government has purchased accident insurance for urban elderly dwellers aged 60 and above and the seniors from elderly care institutions since 2018, which has benefited 230,000 elderly people. Up to now, over 3,700 insurance cases have been reported to the bureau by insured elderly people and their families, and a total of nearly ten million yuan has been distributed in compensation.

　　The person in charge of the Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs stated that, due to the rapid growth of aging population, the elderly people in the urban area of Yichang amounts to around 230,000, including about 37,000 over 80 years old. The municipal government has applied accident injury insurance for the elderly in group bearer form, instead of individual application, by which the elderly beneficiaries of this insurance can receive up to 30,000 yuan of insurance compensation.

　　The insurance covers all those over 60 years old with their residence registered in Yichang urban district, including Xiling District, Wujiagang District, Dianjun District, Xiaoting District, the three villages and one community in Yiling District (namely Longquanshan Village, Nanjinguan Village, Qianping Village and Nanjinguan Community in former Xiling District), Yichang High-Tech Zone and entrusted Baiyang Industrial Park and Bio-industrial Park (Tumen Village, Meihua Village, Chezhan Village, Shihuashan Village, Citrus Farm and Dongjinyuan Community).
