Yichang is listed among cities with potential, according to the 2023 City Index Report of China Yangtze River Culture Development released under the lead of China Economic Information Service of Xinhua News Agency and announced at the 2023 Yangtze River Culture Development Seminar held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.
The report has analyzed 22 typical cities with advantages in the field of the development of the Yangtze River culture from dimensions including conservation, inheritance and development. It has scientifically quantified the development levels and future trends of Yangtze River culture in these cities, and also evaluated the levels of the protection, inheritance and development of the Yangtze River culture, filling the research gap in domestic digital evaluation in the field and providing decision-making tools for humanistic and economic development in cities in the Yangtze River basin. The report shows that the development of the Yangtze River culture, in a whole, presents obvious head effect. The evaluation targets include key riverside cities in Sichuan, Chongqing, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and so on. The protection, inheritance and development of Yangtze River culture have been evaluated in holistic and concrete ways so as to assist localities in finding their specialties and disadvantages. Six cities including Chongqing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Changsha are listed as model cities, Chengdu, Suzhou, Ningbo, Huzhou, Hefei and Jiujiang as developing cities, and Yichang, Kunming, Yueyang, Nanchang, Zhenjiang, Zunyi, Guiyang, Wuhu, Yibin and Hengyang as cities with potential. In the dimension of Yangtze River culture development, cities such as Nanjing, Jiujiang, and Yichang take the lead in the overall promotion of the ecological conservation of the Yangtze River.
