With the achievement of full 5G coverage in Lianghekou Village in Nanyang Town, Xingshan County (the last administrative village in the city to achieve full coverage of 5G network) on March 12, Yichang has become the first in Hubei Province to achieve the target of full coverage of 5G network in all administrative villages, according to statistics from the local wireless network OMC platform, 21 months ahead of the national target deadline and 9 months ahead of the provincial target deadline.
In December 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other 11 national ministries jointly launched the special action of “Signal Upgrade”, requiring a significant improvement in the coverage and quality of mobile network signals in administrative villages by 2025. In January 2024, the provincial government work report explicitly stated that full coverage of 5G network in administrative villages will be achieved in 2024. Starting from August 2021, China Mobile’s Yichang subsidiary actively applied to the provincial company of China Mobile for various resources and financial support and established three special working groups to fully promote and accelerate the construction of 5G networks in administrative villages. By March 12, the company has invested a total of 1.372 billion yuan, achieving 100% coverage of 5G networks in all 1343 administrative villages in the city. This has smoothed the “main artery” of information and bridged the urban-rural network coverage gap. (Reporter/Gong Changjun, Correspondent/ Jiang Yuanyuan)
