Achievements of Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician introduced to Yichang

  The industrial production project of boron isotopes based on a key sci-tech research achievement made by Hu Shilin, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, was successfully signed in Yichang High-Tech Zone on May 18, marking the transformation of first technology of boron isotope production domestically developed at home into industrial operation, which will enable the industrial and large-scale production of boron isotopes in China. It will also break foreign monopoly in this field, eliminate the bottleneck and enable the localization of pertinent boron isotope products.

  It was understood that boron isotopes, due to their characteristics of efficient neutron absorption, high integration, and density, have wide applications with great market potentials in many fields, including modern industries and innovative pharmaceuticals. However, large-scale production of boron isotopes in China is lagging behind, unable to meet the domestic industrial demand for enriched boron, leading to over-reliance on imported products.

  Based on the technological innovations in production of boron isotopes developed by the sci-tech research team of Hu Shilin, Yichang High-Tech Zone will build a new innovation platform, Zhu Guangya Strategic Emerging Industry Center in Yichang jointly with the Institute of Zhu Guangya Strategic Science and Technology. The center will focus on key fields, technologies and industries, and carry out frontier sci-tech research in building an industrial park with billions of RMB in assets. Therefore, with more new productive forces, it will significantly accelerate Yichang’s efforts to become a model city in the Yangtze River protection. (Reporter/Fu Wei, Correspondent/Cheng Bo)
