Recently, it was learned from the Public Transport Group under the Yichang City Development Investment Group that in total 15,000 free bus cards have been distributed to seniors aged 65 and above by community workers since Yichang first launched the service of application-free home delivery of free bus cards nationwide.

　　Since 1996, Yichang took the lead in Hubei Province by implementing the policy of free bus rides for seniors aged 65 and above, the elderly’s travel passes have undergone a seamless transition from handwritten tickets to a hassle-free, automatic entitlement system. Up to now, over half a million free bus cards for the elderly have been issued across the city, with approximately 200,000 current holders. The Yichang Public Transport Group has annually undertaken the financial burden of over 70 million yuan to facilitate the charitable travel of the elderly.
