Yichang has seen a remarkable surge in the adoption of new energy vehicles in recent years. According to statistics from the municipal public security department, the number of new energy vehicles in Yichang has reached 52,396 by the end of July. This rapid growth has been fueled by the city’s accelerated efforts in building charging infrastructure, which now boasts a total of 23,355 charging stations, ranking second in Hubei Province.
The head of the Energy Construction Department at the Municipal Development and Reform Commission elaborated that Yichang has strategically targeted 430 administrative villages, including central hubs, economically prosperous villages, transportation nodes, and tourist attractions, for the deployment of charging infrastructure. This initiative involves unified planning, construction, and operation at the county and city levels, ensuring a cohesive approach. Each village shall be equipped with at least one fast charger (no less than 60 KW) and one slow charger (no less than 7 KW), or alternatively, a DC installation (no less than 60 KW) with dual charging ports.
Upon completion and acceptance of the charging infrastructure projects in Yichang, all charging stations will be transferred to State Grid Yichang Power Supply Company for centralized operation and maintenance. Additionally, management and protection agreements will be signed with each village, clarifying respective responsibilities and achievingaself-sustainingoperationmode. This approach ensures that the facilities are not only built for but also effectively managed and enjoyed by the community. (Reporter/Zhao Jingyi, Correspondent/Chen Xiaohui)
