Hundreds of grey cranes (Grus grus), a Class II nationally protected species in China, were recently observed migrating through the Juhe Wetland Park in Yuan’an County, and concurrently, staff from the Yichang Birdwatching Association reported frequent sightings of these cranes resting in small flocks on the lawns adjacent to Three Gorges Dam Closure Park, according to a statement by the Yichang Municipal Forestry and Landscape Bureau on March 5.
The person in charge of the bureau emphasized that the significant congregation of grey cranes serves as an important bio-indicator of Yichang’s progressive improvement of ecological conditions. (Reporter/Zheng Yan, Correspondent/Shu Renqing)
