An increasing number of high-quality export-oriented products are now reaching local consumers. As of April 24, over 130 physical stores and online platforms in Yichang have set up dedicated “Premium Export-Quality Product” sections respectively, offering more than 200 types of goods, including towels, canned fruit, and medical supplies, according to the Yichang Municipal Commerce Bureau.
In response to the changes in global trade dynamics and growing domestic demand, Yichang’s commerce authorities have introduced supportive policies and platforms to help export-driven businesses seize opportunities, expand markets, and secure orders, to ensure stable operations, production capacity, and market share. This initiative marks a strategic transition from positioning Yichang as a “world factory” to establishing its products as the “preferred choice” for domestic consumers.
A spokesperson from the bureau explained that comprehensive assessments have been conducted to identify companies impacted by U.S. tariffs, followed by the implementation of a tailored, one-on-one supportsystem. Initiatives like “state-owned enterprises supporting private counterparts” have been rolled out to foster collaboration, diversify markets in Belt and Road countries, and reduce reliance on volatile single markets. To further promote domestic sales of export goods, the bureau has facilitated partnerships between local retailers, including Yichang International Trade Group, Yasi, Beishan and Sanxia Global Harbor, and manufacturers, creating specialized zones for export-quality products. Thirteen companies, such as Jinsuo Textiles, Fengdao, Qugu Group and Aomei Medical, now supply their goods directly to supermarkets for domestic distribution. Moving forward, the commerce department will continue integrating domestic and international trade by building platforms, pooling resources, and driving growth to bring more premium export products into households across Yichang.(Reporters/Yang Chunyan and Wang Fei, Correspondent/Yao Ding’an)
