2025-06-06 10:14:00

On June 5, Yichangofficially issued its first batch of municipal-level forestry carbon sink certificatesin Changyang County, certifying 143,800 tons of carbon reduction for the initial accounting period, and launched its forestry carbon inclusive platformon the same day.

These certificates represent the carbon revenue rightsof forested land, essentially serving as tradable “ID cards” that allow forests’ carbon absorption capacity to be monetized through transactions, mortgagesor carbon offsetting as an asset. The three municipal-levelforestry carbon sink certificates issued this time covered state-owned public welfare forests in Houhe and Dalaoling National Nature Reserves, as well as collectively managed plantations in YazikouTownship,ChangyangCounty, areas with Yichang’s most abundant forest resources, approximately 2,153 hectares. The first accounting period for these certificates spans 5 years, with an estimated 580,000 tons of carbon emission reductions projected over a 20-year crediting period.

Theforestry carbon inclusive platform, developed by the Yichang Municipal Bureau of Forestry and GardeningAdministration, integrates carbon certificate transactions with practical carbon-neutral applications, enabling complete online operations, featuring functions such as certificate display, carbon neutrality scenario applications, online transfer and trading and the generation of carbon neutrality certificates and invoices, with six application modulesofzero-carbon events, zero-carbon tourism, Corporate and individual carbon neutrality, alternative afforestation obligations and carbon compensation for environmental damages.

Corporations, institutions and individualsparticipating in carbon neutrality activities or fulfilling ecological damage restoration and compensation obligations may purchaseverified forestry carbon credits onthe said platform via WeChat APP, to fulfill their social responsibilities in carbon neutrality.
