Yichang corn seeds well accepted in Africa
2025-06-14 10:21:00

On June 12, Hubei Kangnong Seed Co Ltd signed an agreement with an African partner to export 80,000 kilograms of premium corn seeds to Angola during the China Hubei-Africa Economic and Trade Fair in Changsha. Cultivated in Yichang, Hubei Province, these seeds will soon take root in African soil, introducing Hubei grain into the African communities.

As one of China’s first 27 nationally-certified seed enterprises, Kangnong Seed initiated small-scale trial cultivation in African countries including Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Angola a decade ago. During these trials, the company’s self-developed high-yield corn variety, Kangnong No. 2, demonstrated exceptional performance and gained popularity among local farmers. This shipment represents the company’s first independent corn seed export. The 80,000 kilograms of seeds are expected to plant more than 3,300 hectares of farmland in Angola.
