In 2025, Yichang saw steady growth in its sturgeon industry, with total biological reserves exceeding 12,000 metric tons. Caviar output is expected to surpass 220 metric tons this year, andthe industry’s annual output value is expected to exceed1.5 billion yuan, emerging as a key pillar of regional economic growth and rural revitalization.

　　To date, Yichang is home to 24 aquaculture enterprises and nine processing companies in the sturgeon sector, with major industry indicators ranking topamong prefecture-level cities nationwide. The sturgeon-related industrial chain has generated over 10 billion yuan in output value.

　　Yichang has over 80 aquaculture facilities, with a total capacity of 1.8 million cubic meters. Among them, the Qingjiang Sturgeon Valley in Yidu County boasts the world’s largest single indoor, factory-style sturgeon farming facility, raising more than 1.1 million adult sturgeons. It has established itself as a global leader in sturgeon aquaculture and caviar production.
