After 1,920 days of relentless work, the Xingshandong Tunnel, the longest and geologically most complex control project on the Yichangbei–Xingshan High-Speed Railway, was holed through on January 21. This milestone completes all major control projects for the line, clearing the final technical hurdlesbefore its full operation. Stretching 16.88 kilometers, the tunnel will link the Zhengzhou–Wanzhou High-Speed Railway with the Shanghai–Chongqing–Chengdu High-Speed Railway. It is set to play a pivotal role in improving the comprehensive multi-dimensional transport system of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and in boosting regional coordinated development.
