Yichang is set to fully launcha three-year action plan for its transportation sector from 2026 to 2028, with a focus on major infrastructure projects, ferry safety upgrades and the growth of transport enterprises, according to the Yichang Municipal Bureau of Transportation.
Over the 3-year period, the bureau will invest 181.4 billion yuan in 148 key transport projects. By 2028, Yichang aims to bring the total investment in highway and waterway projects to 100 billion yuan, while extending the expressway network to over 1,000 kilometers.
This year, construction will begin on the western section of the Wuhan-Chongqing Expressway in Yichang, and strive tostart on the expansion of the Yichang Yangtze River Highway Bridge. It will see an additional 63 kilometers of expressway under construction, along with the construction or upgrade of more than 200 kilometers of Class I and II highways and over 870 kilometers of rural roads. Safety improvements on rural roads, including the installation of protective barriers and bridge renovations, will also be accelerated. In addition, several waterway infrastructure projects are set to break ground this year, including liquid chemical terminals, waterway improvement works, general-purpose terminals and waterway service areas.
