According to recent data released by the Yichang Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Yichang is now home to more than 1,200 tea processing enterprises, including 4 national leading enterprises, 35 provincial-level or above leading enterprises, and 105 enterprises above the designated size. Over 100,000 square meters of standardized primary and refined processing workshops have been newly constructed, and more than 50 automated and intelligent production lines have been installed. Moving beyond traditional processing methods, local enterprises have expanded into products such as dark brick tea, scented tea, instant tea, tea concentrates, and matcha, facilitating a transition from primary processing to deep processing and higher value-added production.
Tea cultivation in Yichang spans from low hilly areas to regions at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters. Tea production is carried out in 644 villages across nine counties and districts, including Wufeng, Yiling and Yidu, involving 550,000 tea farmers in tea plantation and processing.
