A recent national agricultural trade promotion training session held in Yichang highlighted Yichang’s active efforts to expand agricultural opening-up and guide local enterprises into international markets. To date, Yichang boasts85 agricultural export enterprises, with total exports reaching 3.79 billion yuan in 2025, accounting for approximately 27% of Hubei Province’s total agricultural export revenue and ranking first in the province for two consecutive years.
Yichang has made cultivating high-quality market entitiesa key strategy for boosting agricultural exports, supporting export-oriented agribusinesses to grow through mergers, restructuring, equity cooperation and cluster development. Yichang consolidated its tea producers into Yichang Tea Group Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Angel Yeast Group Co Ltd, which draw onits parent company’s global sales network and distribution channels to promote exports of tea and other agricultural products. Angel Yeast and its yeast extract products are sold worldwide, with overseas proprietary brands accounting for over 95% of sales.
Through sustained branding efforts, Yichang’s citrus industry has developed three major regional public brands, including “Yichang honey mandarins,” “Zigui Navel Orange” and “Qingjiang Ponkan,” while the tea sector has established two regional public brands, “Yihong Congou” (black tea) and “Yichang Maojian” (green tea). It has also integrated caviar, cordyceps, mandarins and Yihong tea into a product lineup. Additionally, “Yizhi Konjac” has been selected for the “CCTV National Brand Strengthening Project,” further enhancing the reputation of Yichang’s agricultural export brands.
