He had ever been promoted as Premier and Minister of the State of Chu, and dismissed because of calumny. He gave himself up in the Miluo River when Qin broke the capital of Chu. With his famous poem "Li Sao", "Tian Wen", "Jiu Zhang", "Jiu Ge", Qu Yuan was listed as world cultural celebrities by UNESCO in 1953.
When the water level of the Three Gorges Dam reservior reaches 139m, there is no significant effects on Qu Yuan Memorial Temple. The present temple was built because of Gezhou Dam Project. With the rising of the water level of the Three Gorges Dam reservior, the Qu Yuan Memorial Temple has to be relocated again to Fenghuang Mountain in Maoping Town.
The Qu Yuan Memorial Temple is situated in an orange woodland. One can see the two words "Qiu Suo(to explore)" formed by millenarian trees upon entering the temple, which symbolizes that the spirit of Qu Yuan will last forever.
