Recently, Chinese Merganser (Mergus squamatus), a national-level protected species, was discovered in the Baixihe River section in the routine monitoring of the staff of Houhe National Nature Reserve in Wufeng County. According to the staff, this is the sixth consecutive year to spot the species wintering in Wufeng, which provides a graphic demonstration of the improved environment of the reserve and the effective protection of the local biodiversity.
