Yichang athlete Sun Jiajun wins gold at Paris Olympics

  On August 4, the Chinese swimmers won the gold medal in 3 minutes, 27.46 seconds in the men’s 4×100m medley relay final in swimming at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

  Sun Jiajun, a 24-year-old swimmer from Yichang City, Hubei Province, embarked on his swimming career in 2006 by joining Yichang Sports School. In 2013, he progressed to the Hubei Provincial Swimming Team. On April 2, 2023, Sun Jiajun had the honor of being the first torchbearer in the torch relay through Yichang City during the 16th Hubei Provincial Sports Meeting. More recently, at the 2023 FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, Sun Jiajun amazed spectators by setting a new Asian record in the men’s 50m breaststroke preliminaries, clocking an impressive 26.76 seconds. As a result, on June 18, 2024, he was named to the Chinese national swimming team, preparing to participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics. He Deqiang, his first coach, once commented on his relentless dedication, mental sharpness, and unwavering positivity towards training.
