Yichang dotted with scenic wetland parks
2026-02-05 14:57:00

At Juanqiao River Wetland Park in Dianjun District, dawn redwoods, sunlight, the blue sky and clear waters weave together to form a beautiful painting.

Flocks of whiskered terns forage and rest in the Jinhu Wetland Park in Zhijiang County, creating a spectacular scene.

Campers enjoy the beauty of the Bailinhe Wetland Park in Wujiagang District.

As the world celebrated World Wetlands Day on February 2, Yichang’s wetland area reached 82,400 hectares, 58.42% of which is under protection. Yichang has made sustained improvements in water quality, with an annual reduction of approximately 100 metric tons in pollutant discharges and a notable increase in bird species, including nationally protected species such as Emberiza aureola and Aythya baeri.

Yichang has promoted wetland conservation through systematic ecological restoration. It has built a protection system that emphasizes both legal safeguards and public education. Its efforts to raise environmental awareness, enhance regional collaboration, and establish cross-city ecological compensation and cooperative protection mechanisms have contributed significantly to the overall improvement of the ecological environment in the Yangtze River basin.
