Since mid-July, the Yichang Fishery Sector has frequently received phone calls telling about the appearance of national protected aquatic animals in the Yangtze River with water level rise of the Yangtze River. According to the statistics from the Yichang Fishery Sector, it has handled two reports about sturgeon within 20 days. One of the sturgeons, more than 50 kg, was in Gezhouba Shiplock. The other report was that a fisherman accidentally caught a sturgeon. After the check by the officers, the sturgeon was given back to the Yangtze River. The officers dealt with 6 Chinese suckers and one of them is being treated in the Sturgeon Treatment Center. In late July, more than 10 finless porpoises gathered in groups in urban Miaozui reach of Yangtze River, which was rarely seen. In recent years, Yichang Fishery Sector actively combats illegal fishing, implementing the Yangtze River fishing prohibition and aquatic environment protection policy.
