Recently, citizens havefound that on Dongshan Road, the escalators arebeing installed at the BRT footbridges, which makes them excited. This means that local citizens can takeescalators up and down the foot-bridges. (Reporter: Li Mengyue)
At about 4 p.m.yesterday, the reporter came to the BRT footbridge located at the intersection of the Dongshan Road and Orchard Second Road and saw four or five workers busy installing escalators. "We have been busy installing escalators day and night for a few days in order to make them accessible as soon as possible." One of them said.
According to the BRT headquarters, in order to alleviate the traffic pressure in rush hours and make it convenient for the residents to go around, escalators have been installed since October 16, at various BRT bus stops which include those at the No.22 Middle School, Beishangpo, Guoyuan Second Road, Gangwuxincun, Xiling First Road, Yiling Coach and so on. Altogethertwenty-one public service escalators and three passenger elevators are to be installed, which are manufactured by Edunburgh Elevator Company Yichang Branch. Then, when willthe escalators be ready for use? “After a series of installation and examination, they are expected to be put to use after mid-November.” The BRT project leader GaoPeng said.
Many citizens, especially those with luggage and senior citizens, give applauses to the installation of such flyover-escalators. “I live on Orchard Second Road, and buy vegetable from the market across the street every day. And I have to walk up and down the foot-bridge to cross the street since the operation of BRT, which is very inconvenient for me, with my weak legs. I am quite pleased to see the escalators, because it is convenient, particularly for us elderly people.” said Aunt Hu. In the interview, the reporter noticed that from time to time, people went up and down the foot-bridges with luggage. The residents are very happy to hear that escalators are usableat the end of November. “It is inconvenient for you to go through the foot-bridges with luggage, so the escalators will bringconveniences to us.” Mr. Cui said.
How to take an escalator safely?
In recent years, escalators have caused casualties in different places across the country, which makes the local citizens nervous. Now we would like to draw your attention to the following precautions so as to take the escalator safely in our daily life.
1. Know where the red Emergency Stop Button of the escalator is. Usually, it is set in an auspicious place at the entrance or exit of the escalator. Once in danger, seek help or press the button to stop the machine.
2. Before taking an escalator, please lace up your shoes. If you wear a long dress, please lift it a little bit lest it be caught in the gap in the escalator, which might cause a fall.
3. Don’t lean on the handrail, since it might work at a different speed from that of the escalator, which can be dangerous.
4. Don’t play on the escalator, or put your head or hand out of the handrail. Parents should take good care of their children, and toddlers should be carried instead of letting them walk by themselves.
5. If the escalator is in maintenance, do not use it. (Collected by Li Mengyue)
