Yichang rises with roads and overpasses across the big city among the green.

On March 1st, when the reporter enjoys the beautiful view of Jiangcheng Avenue on Dongyue Overpass, an express way connecting the south and the north part of the city is faintly revealed before my eyes,.In the first half of this year, the first phase of projects like Jiangcheng Avenue, Zhixi Yangtze River Bridge, and Dianjun Avenue (except Yiqiao Overpass) has been completed, laying foundation for inner ring network’s overall connection.

Zhang Jun who is responsible for urban construction says, Jiangcheng Avenue, located between Fanba Freeway in Dianjun District and the Yangtze River, is the second express way connecting Dianjun District from the south to the north, and the major part of urban express way network in downtown area of Yichang. The first phase of Jiangcheng Avenue project starts from Dianjun Avenue in the north and ends in Yiqiao Road in the south. Its second phase starts from Yiqiao Road in the north and arrives at Wujiagang Yangtze River Bridge in the south. The road covers 8.1 km in total, attracting investment of around 1.78 billion RMB. It is expected to finish the earthwork by August, the drainage work by September and the bridge construction by November, since 70% of the earthwork has been completed at present. 

Jiangcheng Avenue, connecting 4 river-spanning bridges like Zhixi Yangtze River Bridge, Yiling Yangtze River Bridge, Wujiagang Yangtze River Bridge and Yichang Yangtze River Bridge, will greatly enhance the connection among Dianjun District, Xiling District and Wujiagang District after its completion. It will form a skeleton of express way system in the south bank with Zhixi Yangtze River Bridge, Yiling Yangtze River Bridge, Wujiagang Yangtze River Bridge. “Jiangcheng Avenue with the largest number of bridges in Yichang, consists of 5 main bridges along the road, 2 bridges connecting main bridges up and down and half of the road built on the bridges.”Zhang Jun says, “Jiangcheng Avenue forms a great challenge in construction since it crosses Juanqiao River, Changling River and many roads like Jiangjun Road, Dianjun Road, Shuangshi Road and Wulong Rod.”

Yichang decides to build a bikeway and hiking trail with a length of 30km and a width of 3.5 along the hills on Jiangcheng Avenue where citizens can ride a bike while joyfully enjoying beautiful scenery. 

“Residents drive on Jiangcheng Avenue with green forests in front of their eyes as if they were in a painting.”Zhang Jun describes what Jiangcheng Avenue will be like in future. 

Zhang Jun says, greenway project in planning and construction of Jiangcheng Avenue covers three aspects including slope ecological restoration, greenway construction and ecological forest construction. There are hiking road, greenway node and bicycle greenway which includes waterfront bicycle greenway, mountain bicycle greenway and special green way, providing cyclists with colorful natural experiences. 

The slope along the road will be covered with net and spray-seeding to realize forestation and repair on the mountain for ecological protection after the construction is finished. The construction will be based on current evergreen species like pine, cypress and tangerine, and the available spaces will be taken full use of to enrich forest. Thus, colorful flowers and leaves will be represented all the year round.

Zhang Jun says, Jiangcheng Avenue will become the first real ecological road after its completion. It will become a special name card for Yichang. People can have a special sport in Yichang for an hour, a shuttle among natural green for an hour, a challenge of courage and endurance for an hour and a double experience of health and green for an hour.
