On April 10th, the Yichang Traffic Police Detachment issued a public notice, which states that from April 18th on, the traffic control and optimization will be implemented on some of the roads in Dongshan Section of New High-tech District, in order to guarantee the operation of “Quasi-expressway” transformation project of the Dalian Road in this section. The aim is to ease the traffic pressure of Dalian Road into the city, finely allocate road resources of the Shenzhen Road and reduce traffic pressure in Dongshan Section.
On April 10th, the reporter interviewed the relevant person in charge of Yichang Traffic Police Department.
Status: That lanes do not match has become traffic bottleneck
The relevant person in charge of Yichang Traffic Police Department introduces the current situation of road traffic in Dongshan Section of High-tech District to the reporter.
The section is mainly composed of road networks of “One Vertical and Three Horizontal” (The vertical road refers to Chengdong Avenue; the horizontal roads refer to Development Avenue, Dalian Road, and Gangyao Road). Development Avenue is the main channel from the north to the south into the city center. At the same time, it can also help divert the vehicles going into the city. The traffic flow is blocked by seven intersections to provide the peripheral barrier for the vehicles going to the city center. Dalian Road is the main channel from the south to the north to go out of city center, which mainly ease the traffic flow from city center to the north to go out. There are 9 traffic nodes such as Shenzhen Road intersection, Chengdong Avenue intersection, Dalian Road tunnel, and Qingdao Road intersection and so on. Gangyao Road is the main channel for urban freight transport; Chengdong Avenue is responsible for vertical extension connection.
At present, Dalian Road, with a total length of 4,350 meters, has been constructed and put into use in different years. The entire lanes do not match, which form a traffic bottleneck. And the dense traffic nodes of the Dalian Road caused a large number of traffic delays. In the morning and evening, the tide traffic forms one-way congestion, and the pedestrian cross on the street forms intermittent traffic breakpoints. In addition, Shenzhen Road bus stops cause congestion too. Because one side of the Shenzhen Cross Road is used as roadside parking lot, the transport function of Shenzhen Cross Road has been severely weakened, and there are some factors such as two breakpoints in uncompleted Qingdao Road, resulting in the lack of transport efficiency of relevant side roads in Dongshan Section.
Reduce traffic congestion: change double line to single line in the direction of getting out of city center.
In order to ease the road congestion pressure in Dongshan Section, Yichang Traffic Police Department implements traffic optimization on some roads in Dongshan Section.
● Change Dalian Road in direction of out of city center from double line to single line, eliminate node congestion, and implement one-way traffic on the motorway from Yunji Tunnel to Qingdao intersection, allowing only one-way traffic from the Yunji Tunnelto city center and prohibiting vehicles to enter the tunnel from Qingdao intersection.
Optimize the lane setting and expand the city channel, and the Shenzhen intersection of Dalian Road to Shantou junction will be transformed into “Three Lanes out and one lane in” (except the small tunnel), which will ensure all three lanes of the city spread straight; turn the two lanes of the tunnel into three lanes.
Improve the traffic control facilities at crossroads of Dalian Road, Shenzhen Road, Beihai Road, and Nanbo Road, and implement fixed light control, which jointly control all the lines; set up green wave bands during peak hours; optimize and adjust the crosswalk along the line.
Reduce the city traffic pressure of Dalian Road by using multi-channel diversion from Dalian Road into the city. From the intersection of Dalian Road and Shantou Road to Qingdao intersection, the relatively idle non-motorized lane and a motorized lane on the west side are allowed to be used by the vehicles entering the city; the vehicles on Shantou Road are guided to Qingdao Road or let them pass through other peripheral roads, such as Juxiang Road, Gangyao Road and Zhongnan Road; Further optimize the control of Dongshan Tunnel exit signal, add waiting areas, and improve the efficiency of exit traffic. Then the time duration of signal light from Development Avenue into the city will be prolonged accordingly.
Finely allocate road resources of Shenzhen Road---coordinate relevant departments to merge two short-distance bus stations; build harbor bus stations to eliminate parking problems; and according to the proportion of two-way traffic, implement the policy of “Two lanes in and one lane out” to reallocate the lanes.
